Postural/Function/Comfort

Dreyfus icons2.png

Many pain problems arise from decreased awareness of proper alignment, postural patterns and efficient ways to move. Repetition over time of inefficient postural use can contribute to muscle imbalances that may become hard to reverse and that may cause pain.

Through careful observation and analysis we will help determine potential muscles imbalances and patterns of posture that can be corrected. Tactile (hands on) and/or verbal cuing specific to your particular structural make-up will help guide you to more efficient and effective ways to sit, stand and move.

I will demonstrate and give you repeated opportunities to 'practice' within our sessions with guidance from me to help you learn new patterns that will improve your comfort. Targeted therapeutic exercises will also be given, if appropriate, to address muscle imbalances.

Some patients benefit from having a video created during the session to remind them when they are at home or work how to carry over the specifics of the what is taught during a session. Follow up sessions will always include a careful review of how things have been since the last session with opportunity to clarify questions about the home exercise program.

Workplace Postural Wellness

Workplace postural positions and activity, be they prolonged sitting, standing or other necessary repetitive motions, can bring on pain and discomfort. Whether you sit at a computer all day, cut hair, drive, work at a lab bench, or do some other type of work, you may notice particular problems that arise from your occupation.

We will work during sessions to fully understand the particulars of your job. This includes the pacing, the positions, the height and arrangement of what you work with, and of course any repetitive activity. I will analyze your postural and functional patterns while you demonstrate these to me.

Together we will discover what may be the root cause of your pain and work to alleviate it as quickly as possible.  Sometimes very simple, easy to implement positional changes can have a dramatic effect on reducing pain.

Additional therapeutic exercises may be taught as well, for you to work on to improve the muscles balance so that you have greater endurance and strength to support your working positions.

Worksite visits can be arranged, as well as on site education for employees.
